Learning Reflection in A Discourse Approach in Reading

What did I learn in this class ?

-In this class, I learned about genres of text. It's 10 types as follows :

1. Recount : Any text tell about the past experience and using language to keep the past alive and help us to interpret experience.

2.Narrative : The text tell the story for entertains. They are typically imaginary cut can be factual.


3.Descriptive : The text is a text which says what a person, a thing or place is like.


4. Procedure : The purpose of procedure is to tell the reader to do or make something.


5.Comparison and Contrast : A comparison and contrast pattern presents similarities(comparisons) between two or more things, differences (contrasts) between two or more things, or both similarities and differences.

6.Cause and Effect : Cause and Effect is used to present the relationship between the cause and effect.


7.Definition : Definition : Definition : Definition is a statement of the meaning of a term.


8.Classification : Classification is use to divide general concepts into a number of different types.


9. Exemplification : Exemplification writing uses specific,vivid examples for the purpose of adding more information to explain, persuade, define, or illustrate a general idea.

10.Problem and Solution : Problem and solution is a text tell about problem ans then gives one or more solution

-What did you find

difficult?

I think this class is difficult because every lesson has more vocabularies and I can't to translate the text. So I have many problems for learn this class.

-How did you solve the problem ?

My problem is I can't to translate the meaning of some word in the text. So I find the meaning of the word from dictionary on smart phone and I will practice myself.

-What are your attitudes towards the lesson? This course is difficult for me.But It made me to active to learn. First time, I was excited because I never learn with Dr. Usa Noytim.

Problem and Solution 2

Today, I had a Discourse Approach in Reading. I learned this lesson '' Problem and Solution'' continued from last week. This lesson is final lesson of this course. First of all, My friends and I answered the question in the exercise 1 and 2. It's about find problem and solve in the passage. I think it was difficult because I can't to write the main idea of the passage.

 
 
 
 
In my opinion, this lesson is more benefit. We can find the problem and solve from word marker. It's difficult but I will try to practice.
 

 
 
After that, w finished this lesson. Then, teacher assigned  to present about procedure continued from last week.  I enjoyed with friends video.
 
 

Exemplification 2 & Problem and Solution

Today is Friday, but I had a Discourse Approach in Reading because teacher had meeting on Monday. First of all, we learned Exemplification continued  from last week. Then, we read and did exercise the text '' What is Language ? ''. 



After that, We learned  unit 10 Problem and Solution. Teacher explain us about Problem and Solution. 

'' Problem and Solution is a pattern of organization where information in a passage is expressed as a dilemma or concerning issue (a problem) and something that was, can be, or should be done to remedy this issue (solution or attempted solution) ''

She shown words of problem marker and words of solution marker. Then, we did skill practice: Circle the problem marker and highlight the solution marker in the texts. This text about ''More women take jobs outside the home'' 

I think Problem and Solution is difficult because it has a lot of words marker.

Definition and Classification 2, Examplification

Today, I had a Discourse Approach in Reading. First , I learned about Definition and Classification. Teacher assigned to read text and did exercise, It's about '' Species of Whales '' 

After finished, My friends and I learned  Unit 9 '' Exemplification''. Teacher told about details,marker of Exemplification such as to illustrate, for example , for instance , and demonstrate. 

Then, we did read the text 1'' College Students' Pressure '' and complete the diagram. After that, we read text 2 '' Fun things of to do in Great Falls'' and answer the question.

I think '' this lesson is difficult but I can do it with myself. I will  try to find the meaning of difficult vocabularies.

Definition and Classification

Today is Monday. In the morning,  I had Discourse Approach in Reading. First, I learned about the new lesson " Definition and Classification " . First of all, teacher explained about meaning of definition and  classification. Then, she told our about word to use in definition and classification such as 

Definition 
-is
-refer to 
-call
-are

Then, she assigned us to did exercise 1 about find the definition marker,technical terms,and the definitions.After, we did exercise 2 It about finding the classification marker, and draw a diagram. 

Last, we learned about Anthropology and did the exercise. In my opinion, Definition and Classification is not difficult if  I can find the definition marker,technical terms,and the definitions. 

Cause and Effect

Today, I had a Discourse Approach in Reading. I learned about ''Cause and Effect'' First of all, teacher told our about details of Cause and Effect,Discourse Marker. After that, She assigned our to did exercise 1 It about find the cause and effect in the sentences.

Then, we learned exercise 2,it about Titanic. My friends and I did exercise together. We like this lesson. After, we did exercise 3 '' The Effect of Stress "

I think this lesson isn't easy but not difficult. I will try to best

Comparison and Contrast ,Cause & Effect

Today is Monday. I had a  Discourse Approach in Reading.First,I learned Comparison and Contrast continued from last week. Then, My friend and I answered the question in text 3 '' Men and Women : Do They Speak the Same Language ?" This text tell about Similarities and Differences between Men and Women and this text help both men and women improve communication better. After that, Teacher assigned us to did homework on weblog.

Are any of Tannen's point about the different personalities of men and women in your native culture ?

-Women are cried more than men.

-Men are sultry easier women.

-Women are shopping more than men.

Finally, We learned about Cause & Effect. Teacher introduce us about this lesson for example Cause and Effect Markers .Then, she assigned us to did exercise 1. 

It was very difficult for me, I can't to find makers because it has more vocabularies. But  I can share the answer with friends.

Comparison and Contrast 2

Today is Monday. I had a Discourse approach  in Reading. But today had a mid-term test about Recount, Narrative, Descriptive and Procedure,it is very hard. Then, we learned about Comparison and Contrast continued from last week.  

Teacher assigned  to read and learned Text 1,It is about Subway systems of New York/Paris. After that, we did exercise on page 3 and we found a discourse maker for easy to learned. Then, we read and learned Text 2, It is about Similarities and Differences between Hurricane Andrew and Hurricane Katrina. We wrote  Similarities and Differences between Hurricane Andrew and Hurricane Katrina om the circle. 

In my opinion, I like this lesson because I like to find a keywords that use in the text.

Comparison and Contrast

Today is Monday. I had a Discourse approach in Reading class in the afternoon. First of all, I had a pre-midterm test about Recount, Narrative and Descriptive. In my opinion, It is very hard because I don't know the meaning of some vocabularies.

 And then, we learned about procedure continue from last week.
 I learned about How to learn second language ? . Then, teacher taught my friends and I about new lesson '' Comparison and Contrast ''. She shown an apple and an orange. She ask question for us. Finally, she assign me the exercise for homework.


 I think Comparison and Contrast are difficult for me because I must to know a lot of words. But It was funny to learn.

Procedure

   

    Today is Monday. I had a Discourse approach in Reading in the afternoon because Teacher had a meeting in the morning. First, We sharing the anwer in Text 2 and Text 3 with friends. Then, teacher opened the video about How to make omelette.Then,we learned about How to make banana shake , How to make banana cake  and How to make chicken soup. After that, we did exercise in the paper. Finally, teacher assigned we do homework.

Descriptive

Today is Monday. I had a Discourse Approach in Reading. I learned about Descriptive. First, We make groups of four people. Then, Teacher assigned us to look at the picture in the projector and discussed about it. Next, We share about our idea about it to my friends, It is the Komodo dragon.




Then, We share idea about Komodo dragon with friends on the board. Next, We did  exercise  about Komodo dragon and matched word with the correct meaning.After that, we learned about meaning of descriptive,purpose of descriptive.

Finally, I enjoyed with friends video Which Role-play about '' Secret''.  

Narratives 2

   

   Today is Monday.In the morning, I had a Discourse  Approach in Reading  at room 111. First, My friends and I made a group of five people. After that, we discussed about summarize secret in part two and presented to teacher and friends. Next, Teacher wrote a word '' the well '' on the board and she assigned us to describe this word such as dark,dangerous,dry,quite,etc. Then, we discussed and made sentences about three in this story. Then, We presented it to teacher and friends. Next, Teacher assigned us to put crosses on  line what Kylie feels in the circle diagram on p.52.

In my opinion, I like this lesson because i like to discuss with friends and  lessons are interesting.

Narratives

                         Today, I had a  Discourse Approach in Reading class in the morning because Today is Monday. Teacher talked about her story when she was child. Then, She assigned us talked with friends about feeling in child.  

                           After that, We learned about narratives and read narrative '' Secrets(Part 1)'' and translated to Thai Language together. We made group of four people and we summary of the first part of the story and present in front the class.

I think narratives is difficult but  it was interesting. because I had to read many story,It made me enjoy.

In my opinion, This lesson was good but I had a problems about some vocabulary. But I will try to learn many vocabulary. Finally I like to learn about narratives. 

Recount 2

In the afternoon, I learned this class in 234 room. We made a group of five or six people. We did third exercise. Then, Teacher assigned us to write a story by details of recount. My group made a story  about  Holiday at Samed. After that, we choose one people to talked to friends in the class.
I think Writing by use details of recount is difficult but I enjoyed with it.

In this class, I felt so sleepy but when I did exercise with friends I felt happy. 

Recount 1

                   Today is Monday. So  I had a Discourse Approach in Reading class with Asst. Prof. Usa Noytim all day. It's second time to learned this class. In the morning, Teacher opened video about Hockey sport and then she talked about Recount such as types of recount, Details of recount. Then, my friends and I made a group to did exercises. 
First exercise "Our trip to the Blue Mountain" and Second exercise "My Grandpa's Funeral in Toraja". I think this lesson was easy if I know meaning of vocabularise but It's diffcult because I didn't know some vocabulary in passage. My problem is many vocabulary. I will study hard and find some vocabulary on smartphone.And I liked this lesson because I can did exercises with friends.

Learning reflection

Today I had a Discourse Approach in Reading Class with Asst.Prof.Dr. Usa Noytim. I was excited and afraid about this course because I never learn this course. However I will study hard. Teacher is very nice So I felt relax.

First, Teacher talked about  Course Outline,Course Descriptions,Objectives,Contents and five domain. Next, She had an exercises to  me and my friends. I did this exercise with friends.

 In my opinion, I thought genres of text is easy for me. But I had  many problem such as vocabularies. I will try to do more practice and remember vocabularies. This course is benefit and important for people who studying English language.
